NORCROSS, Ga. — NAC International Inc. (NAC) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by CH2M HILL B&W West Valley, LLC for the supply of transportable NAC-MPC dry storage systems for high level waste for the West Valley Demonstration Project located in West Valley, New York. CH2M HILL B&W West Valley is the U.S. Department of Energy’s prime contractor performing the West Valley Demonstration Project Phase I Decommissioning Project. The scope of the agreement includes design, engineering, licensing and fabrication of NAC-MPC storage units, which will provide safe and secure transportable storage for 275 high level waste canisters and other materials that must be relocated from current facilities in order to permit the project to proceed on schedule.

“This award demonstrates an important recognition by CH2M HILL B&W West Valley and the Department of Energy of the key technology linkages between management of spent fuel and high level waste in the nuclear fuel cycle,” said Kent Cole, NAC president. “The selection of the NAC-MPC system for this project reflects their recognition of NAC’s knowledge and experience in providing industry-leading technology and efficient solutions for decommissioned commercial nuclear reactor sites. We look forward to this significant opportunity to join with the West Valley team and DOE to successfully complete this important project. The NAC technology chosen for this project leverages the value of commercial spent nuclear fuel dry storage technology to provide safe, secure and efficient high level waste management.”

NAC’s transportable spent fuel storage technologies are among the most widely deployed multipurpose canister systems in the United States. To date, 520 NAC multipurpose canister systems have been ordered, and 320 have been fabricated, constructed and delivered to commercial or decommissioned nuclear plants. The NAC-MPC transport cask model is already licensed and operational.
