NAC Proud to Celebrate WNFM 50th Anniversary
August 1, 2024 | By David Culp
NAC International was proud to support the 50th Anniversary of the World Nuclear Fuel Market (WNFM) annual meeting and conference, held in Atlanta from June 2-4. NAC representatives joined the WNFM Board of Governors and a record 261 attendees from more than 75 organizations at this landmark event, widely recognized as the industry’s premiere conference for the front-end of the nuclear fuel cycle.
One reason the event has grown so much over the years is that the conference provides a comprehensive look at issues important to the buyers and sellers of nuclear fuel and the associated services needed to manufacture, test, transport and use such fuel. NAC has played a significant role in supporting the WNFM since its creation a half century ago.
“NAC’s association with WNFM dates to the founding of the organization in 1974, when Mike Connor and Carol Thorpe, both NAC employees, identified the need for a member driven, international organization focused on efficient functioning of the nuclear fuel markets,” said Kent Cole, NAC President and CEO.
Over the years, NAC employees have held key positions with the WNFM organization (including its Executive Director, Secretary, and Treasurer) and provided support for the board’s quarterly meetings and annual conference. NAC’s Rachel Little was recognized for playing a key role in organizing this year’s 50th Anniversary event.
The conference featured speakers from many facets of the nuclear fuel cycle from uranium and nuclear fuel producers to utilities that operate nuclear plants and companies that decommission nuclear sites. Conference sessions focused on the overall theme of “Building the Jigsaw Puzzle”, with discussion of the interlocking but independent sectors and phases of the nuclear fuel market in 2024.
The three-day event culminated with a tour of the Vogtle nuclear power plant where two new reactors, Vogtle 3 and 4, were recently completed and connected to the grid.
